A fire caused "substantial" damage to a Magna home — and several ATVs resting under the deck — midday Thursday.

Crews responded to the blaze about 11:50 a.m. at a house near 3700 South and 7600 West, said Unified Fire Authority spokesman Matthew McFarland. When they arrived, the back deck was engulfed in flames.

The fire spread from there after igniting a leaking propane tank attached to a grill. An adult, three children and two dogs left the house without injury, McFarland said.

Though not a total loss, the home had an estimated $75,000 to $100,000 in damage, including the wrecked ATVs, and was declared uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire had not been determined, McFarland said, but investigators ruled that it was accidental and possibly due to an electrical malfunction.
