A prolonged standoff ended late Wednesday night after SWAT officers fired tear gas canisters into an Ogden home and the drunken gunman barricaded inside surrendered.

Ogden police said the 29-year-old suspect surrendered about 11 p.m., but not before he earlier had fired numerous shots from a pistol from a back porch of a home near 400 North and Gramercy Ave.

No one was hurt during the standoff, which lasted more than three hours, but at least one of the bullets struck a neighboring home.

The suspect was booked into the Weber County jail, where he remained Thursday in lieu of nearly $53,000 bail on suspicion of 10 third-degree felony counts of discharging a firearm, and misdemeanor public intoxication.

Ogden police reportedly had been called to the residence just before 8 p.m. after an argument involving the suspect and his roommates ended with the gunfire.

The suspect refused to speak with officers when they arrived, and ignored their calls for his surrender. SWAT was dispatched to secure the scene and attempt to further negotiate with the suspect.
