Unified Police were looking for a group of rifle-toting suspects who robbed a man on a Kearns neighborhood street early Wednesday morning.

However, the 19-year-old victim himself ended up behind bars after officers allegedly discovered a "dabs," or marijuana-extract production and distribution operation in his home.

Unified Police Lt. Brian Lohrke said officers responded to numerous calls about 1:45 a.m. of gunfire in the area 4100 West and 5900 South.

"As officers were arriving we got a call of a robbery at the same location. The victim stated he was robbed of his backpack and a car charger" by three to four men in a white sedan, one of whom had a high-powered rifle.

Lohrke said officers located multiple rifle bullet casings in the road. One bullet hole was later found in the victim's home.

That prompted UPD to seek a search warrant, and officers subsequently discovered the drug operation.

The 19-year-old was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of third-degree felony marijuana possession.

No one was hurt.

Anyone with information on the suspects who remained at large is case is asked to call UPD at 801-743-7000.
