Police found the body of a 29-year-old man in Big Cottonwood Canyon on Tuesday afternoon, after he apparently died from a fall.

The man went for a hike Monday at about 1 p.m. and posted photos on social media from the top of Sundial Peak overlooking Lake Blanche, said Unified police Lt. Brian Lohrke.

When he didn't show up to work the following day, Lohrke said, the man's colleagues became worried and drove up the canyon. They found his truck at the trailhead and called police.

A helicopter located the man's body and search and rescue crews recovered it. He apparently fell 300 to 400 feet from the "rocky peak area," Lohrke said.

Officers have not released the man's name, pending family notification.
