A man was in critical condition after a stabbing in South Salt Lake on Saturday night.

The 40-year-old man walked into a gas station, about 500 East and 3900 South, asking for help at 9:48 p.m. with a significant wound on his back, said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller.

When police arrived, the man was uncooperative and wouldn't answer questions, Keller said. Officers, though, noticed a "pretty substantial blood trail" leading to a campsite at 449 E. 3900 South.

The man was taken to a local hospital; his injuries remained critical Saturday morning.
