A Salt Lake City man died early Thursday in a single-vehicle accident on a West Valley City section of State Road 201 after possibly suffering a medical episode.

Vernon R. Wade, 72, was dead at the scene after his SUV crashed near 5000 West at about 3:50 a.m., the Utah Highway Patrol reported.

Wade was driving east when his vehicle left the roadway and struck the center concrete barrier. The vehicle spun and rolled, coming to rest on its top, UHP reported.

Wade, who was not wearing a seat belt, remained inside the vehicle, but suffered severe head trauma. UHP said it was possible the accident occurred due to an unknown medical issue.

There were no witnesses to the crash, but speed and alcohol were not believed to be contributing factors, UHP said.
