A Magna man has been arrested for allegedly choking a woman to unconsciousness, then leaving her in car at a West Valley City park on Sunday.

Jeffrey Allan Larson, 29, was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on Monday on suspicion of attempted murder, theft and obstructing justice.

The 24-year-old woman remained in critical condition as of Tuesday afternoon, police said.

At about 6:30 a.m. Sunday, police received an anonymous 911 call from a man who said some needed help inside a vehicle at West View Park, 4100 S. 6000 West, according to a jail booking document.

Police responded to the park and found a woman who was unresponsive in back seat of a car. She was taken to a hospital, where doctors said she had life-threatening injuries consistent with strangulation, the jail document states.

Police were able to track Larson, who allegedly placed the 911 call, to his home in Magna.

Larson allegedly admitted to police that he had a physical altercation with the victim, during which he assaulted and strangled her multiple times.

Leaving the woman unconscious in the vehicle, Larson went home, changed his clothes and returned to the park, where he called 911 from her phone, the jail document states.

Larson told police that after making the call, he dismantled the phone in an attempt not to get caught, the jail document states.

Larson also told investigators that he had taken property from the victim.

West Valley City police said Tuesday they were investigating the woman's relationship to Larson.
