A Salt Lake City homeowner halted a break-in and then fended off assaults by two male burglary suspects with the threat of a firearm, police say.

Salt Lake City police detectives say the homeowner and his wife were awakened about 3:40 a.m. Thursday when their garage alarm went off. They found one suspect inside their car, and when they confronted him, the suspect's male accomplice — waiting inside a getaway car outside the home near 2300 S. Wyoming Street (2450 East)— joined the fray.

When the homeowner declared he was armed, the duo fled, jumped into a gold or silver mid-90's Honda Accord, and sped away.

Descriptions of the suspects were sketchy. Both were white males and one of them was heavily tattooed, police said.
