In northern Utah, like life, it can't always be exhilarating sunshine, falling leaves of gold and soft breezes. Storm clouds are on the way as the week ends.

After Thursday dawned partly cloudy on its way to high temperatures in the mid-70s, the Wasatch Front looked for winds of 15-25 mph on Friday ahead of first scattered and then more frequent rain showers. That trend will become more entrenched on Saturday, when showers and sun will duel for dominance as daytime highs slip into the upper-60s.

"All things must pass," as the Swedish band Lake of Tears reminds. "So fell autumn rain, washed my sorrows away. With the sunset behind, somehow I find the dreams are to stay."

Southern Utahns will see some building cloud cover as the weekend approaches, but the region will escape the north's precipitation. Highs in Utah's Dixie will reach the mid-80s, Friday and Saturday, echoing Thursday's forecast.

The Utah Division of Air Quality once again awarded all "green," or healthy grades to its monitoring districts statewide.

The Intermountain Allergy & Asthma website reported that sagebrush and mold were at "high" levels on its pollen index as of Thursday, but other allergens were "low" or didn't register at all.
