A truck driver crushed when nearly five tons of glass fell on him has died at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George.

Errick Holmes, 48, of Long Beach, Calif., had been listed in "very critical" condition after the accident Wednesday, which occurred as he assisted with unloading of the glass at Viracon, a glass supplier located at 1586 E. Venture Drive in St. George.

In the process of being unstrapped from the truck, the glass suddenly shifted and tumbled onto Holmes. It took emergency crews more than half an hour to free him.

Holmes, who was employed by Swift Transportation, was unconscious when freed. Paramedics performed CPR at the scene before a medical helicopter rushed him to the hospital.

The hospital confirmed that Holmes had passed away early Friday morning.
