A truck driver was fighting for his life on Thursday, the day after nearly five tons of glass crushed him in St. George.

St. George police spokeswoman Lona Trombley said 48-year-old Errick Holmes, of Long Beach, Calif., remained in "very critical" condition.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Holmes was outside his truck helping unload a 9,000-pound load of glass for Viracon, a glass supplier located at 1586 E. Venture Drive.

In the process of being unstrapped from the truck, the glass suddenly shifted and tumbled onto Holmes. It took emergency crews more than half an hour to free him and rush him by medical helicopter to Dixie Regional Medical Center.
