An elderly Utah man driving the wrong way on Interstate 15 near Pocatello was critically injured in a head-on collision early Tuesday morning.

The Idaho State Police reported that the 80-year-old Roy man was driving north in the southbound lanes at 2:43 a.m. when his 2003 Ford Windstar van collided with a 2007 GMC Yukon pickup truck.

Both vehicles ended up in the median, near mile post 63. The older man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported by ambulance to Portneuf Medical Center.

The teenage driver of the pickup escaped with minor injuries, ISP said.
