Utah Highway Patrol troopers say a man who was struck and killed after dashing onto a dark, rainy State Road 165 early Monday morning may have been suffering from a mental issue.

Roman Guereca, 19, of Brigham City, appeared to be "in crisis for some reason" before he ran in front of a truck about 6:30 a.m., according to a UHP news release. Sgt. Todd Royce said that possibility had arisen in interviews with witnesses, and that the incident was being investigated further.

Several vehicles avoided hitting the man as he ran into the left, northbound lane, not far from its intersection with 550 North. A pickup truck driver was unable to avoid hitting him, Royce said.
