It will take several days for all repairs to be made at the scene of a large sink hole that forced closure of a section of the South Jordan Parkway early Thursday.

South Jordan city spokeswoman Tina Brown said that the sinkhole, caused by a broken irrigation water line, was first reported at 5:30 a.m. Within a couple hours, it had collapsed a section of road near Vermillion Drive (4255 West), as well as a sidewalk and parking strip.

Crews were on the scene Thursday digging away the damaged sections. It could take through the weekend to completely repair the damage, including repair or replacement of the pipe.

Traffic along the South Jordan Parkway (10600 South) in the affected area was restricted to one lane for both east and west travel. Vermillion Drive was closed at the site, though the city expected to have all lanes reopened sometime Thursday evening.

No injuries were reported.
