Six lawyers with the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office are among candidates being considered as replacements for three outgoing justice court judges.

Utah State Courts spokesman Geoffrey Fattah on Thursday identified the four candidates to replace Midvale City Justice Court Judge Ronald Wolthuis, who is retiring effective Jan. 1, as Michael Peter Boehm, George Vo-Duc and Katherine Peters, who all work for the D.A.'s office; and Edward R. Montgomery, currently a prosecutor for the city of South Jordan.

A comment period will be held through Oct. 11, before a final candidate is selected by Midvale City Mayor JoAnn B. Seghini, who has 30 days to make an appointment.

That appointment then will be submitted to the Midvale City Council for ratification, with the Utah Judicial Council certifying the choice.

The same four candidates also have been nominated for a South Jordan Justice Court bench vacancy created by the coming Jan. 2 retirement of Judge Clinton Balmforth.

A similar process selection and comment period will apply, with South Jordan City Mayor David L. Alvord making appointment, subject to ratification by the South Jordan City Council and Utah Judicial Council certification.

Meanwhile, five nominees have been put forward to replace South Salt Lake Justice Court Judge Catherine M. Johnson, who also is retiring with the new year.

South Salt Lake City Mayor Cherie Wood will choose from among Vo-Duc, two other attorneys from the D.A.'s Office — Katherine Peters and Anna Lisa Rossi Anderson — Scott Reed, with the Attorney General's Office, and Gretchen Johns, of the Office of Guardian ad Litem.

Written comments about all the candidates can be sent to Melisse Stiglich in the Administrative Office of the Courts, at melisses@utcourts.gov.
