A 54-year-old man was struck by a car and killed as he attempted to cross a dark street along the Taylorsville-South Salt Lake border Wednesday night.

Juan Manuel Puga-Hernandez reportedly was not in a crosswalk as he tried to cross 3900 South and was hit, landing on the car's passenger-side windshield before tumbling to the roadway. The woman driving the car was not injured.

Unified Police public safety dispatchers said the incident was reported 9:49 p.m. near 300 West and 3900 South. UPD officers and South Salt Lake paramedics responded, but Puga-Hernandez died at the scene.

The incident was under investigation.
