Salt Lake City police are investigating after an elementary school student brought marijuana-laced brownies to school on Thursday, which sent two other children to the hospital.

Seven Lincoln Elementary school students were given the brownies, knowing they were laced with marijuana, police said Friday in a news release. Two students had to be hospitalized and remain in the hospital. Police said they both tested positive for marijuana.

The school sent out a letter on Friday to parents advising them of the incident. The student told detectives she brought the brownies from home and gave them to other students while at school, police said.

Detectives have interviewed the parents of the child and the investigation is ongoing, the news release said.

Salt Lake City School District spokesman Jason Olsen told KUTV 2News that the student who brought the brownies was a sixth-grader.

Police were asking anyone who may have additional information to call (801) 799-3000. Anonymous tips may be sent by text to 274637. Please start your text with TIPSLCPD, which routes it to the police department. Then include any relevant information.
