Four wildfires in Utah County that were sparked by lightning in the past week have topped a combined 3,000 acres, a Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest Service spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Kathy Pollock said smoke from the fires — which are west of Strawberry Ridge — might become more visible in the area if winds pick up Wednesday afternoon, as forecast by the National Weather Service.

The four fires are being managed so they can play their natural role improving forest health, according to the forest service, which has requested that people not try to extinguish the blazes or call to report them.

The Jocks Canyon Fire, which is south of Diamond Fork Canyon and 2½ miles southeast of Dry Canyon campground, was burning 1,440 acres on Wednesday. The Sawmill Fire, one-half mile from Diamond Fork Road and about 12 miles east of Mapleton, was almost as big at 1,400 acres.

The others are the Two Tom Fire, which covered an estimated 38 acres east of Diamond Fork Canyon about six miles west of the reservoir, and the Pack Fire, 266 acres and one-half miles south of the Two Tom Fire.
