Northern Utah is in store for a warm day on Wednesday with highs ranging from about 80 to the mid 80s.

The day will start with mostly sunny skies but scattered showers and thunderstorms could roll in starting in the afternoon, the National Weather Service says.

By evening, the chance of precipitation will rise to 80 percent in most areas along the Wasatch Front.

Scattered rain is expected in much of the state Wednesday along and storms might be accompanied by strong gusty winds, especially north of Interstate 70, according to the weather service.

A cold storm system will continue to affect Utah on Thursday — the first day of fall — and into the weekend and flooding is possible, the weather service says. There likely will be snowfall at elevations above 8,500 feet.

The temperature is expected to reach the 60s in northern Utah on Thursday, with the highs reaching the 40s to low 50s on Friday.
