A Cache County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a suicidal man Monday morning in Logan Canyon who allegedly was "making threatening actions with a weapon" toward someone else.

Deputies were asked at 10:20 a.m. to check the welfare of the man and made contact with him in the Right Hand Fork area, which is about 10 miles up the canyon from Logan, according to a news release from the Cache County Sheriff's Office.

The Logan Herald Journal reported that a man was threatening a woman with a weapon.

The suicidal man did not respond to commands to drop the weapon and the deputy fired a single shot, wounding him, the news release says. Deputies rendered first aid to the man, who was taken by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the release says.

The investigation of the shooting was turned over to the Logan City Police Department.

No other details about the incident, including the names of those involved, were immediately released.
