A 6-year-old boy drowned Saturday night at a hotel pool in West Valley City.

The boy, identified as Jordan Kalapa of Salt Lake City, was swimming with family about 9 p.m. when he went under water, said West Valley City police Lt. Robert Hamilton. It is not yet clear how long he was under.

Family pulled the boy out of the pool and a doctor staying at the Holiday Inn Express (3036 S. Decker Lake Drive) responded with CPR before responders arrived. The boy was then taken to a local hospital, where he died, Hamilton said.

The boy was at the hotel visiting family from out of state.

Investigators will review hotel surveillance video to help determine what happened.
