Police identified a body found lying in a Box Elder County field as that of an Oregon man.

Jerry Wetherholt, 25, of West Linn, Ore., was last heard from on Sept. 4, when he texted an acquaintance en route to Neola according to a news release from Box Elder County Sheriff's Office. His body was found seven days later by rabbit hunters walking through a field adjacent to Interstate 84 about nine miles east of Snowville.

Wetherholt had been dead "for some time" at that point, though there were no obvious signs of trauma.

"He had no formal mode of transportation," the release states, "and was relying on walking, hitchhiking, hopping freight trains, etc. to get to his destinations."

The state medical examiner is investigating the cause and manner of death, which is being treated as suspicious.
