A 10-year-old girl killed in a Sunday afternoon UTV accident in Cache County was identified by police on Monday as Savanna Kay Petersen.

Petersen was a passenger in a Polaris Ranger UTV when the vehicle struck a trash bin, which then struck her.

The side-by-side utility vehicle was being driven on a public roadway by the girl's 13-year-old brother, a Cache County Sheriff's Office news release said.

The driver apparently drove off the roadway and hit the trash bin, which was on the side of a road just east of Paradise, the release said.

The girl suffered a head injury and was taken to Logan Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just after arrival, according to the release. The 13-year-old boy was not injured.

The accident was under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Utah Highway Patrol.
