Police arrested an allegedly drunk driver late Sunday night after he collided with four vehicles at a West Valley City intersection.

WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said the incident occurred about 9:10 p.m. Sunday at 3500 South and Redwood Road. Several motorists suffered minor injuries in the vehicular mayhem.

The suspect was trying to make a left turn from eastbound 3500 South onto northbound Redwood Road and first crashed into a southbound vehicle. He continued to drive through the intersection, smashing into three more cars.

The suspect then staggered out of his car and tried to flee the scene but was detained by several bystanders until police arrived.

Vainuku said the suspect was arrested after he failed field sobriety tests. He later blew .191 percent for a blood-alcohol content — more than twice times the legal limit.
