A 10-year-old girl who was a passenger in a Polaris Ranger UTV died Sunday from injuries she suffered when the vehicle struck a large trash dumpster, which then struck her.

A Cache County Sheriff's Office news release said the side-by-side utility vehicle was being driven at about 3:35 p.m. on a public roadway by her 13-year-old brother. He apparently drove off the roadway and hit the dumpster, which was on the side of a road just east of Paradise, the release said.

The girl had a head injury and was taken to Logan Regional Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just after arrival, according to the release. Her brother was not injured.

The names of the children were not released. The accident is under investigation by the sheriff's office and the Utah Highway Patrol.
