Funeral services are planned Saturday for a Layton man who died in a mountain biking accident at the Deer Valley Resort.

Richard Benjamin Schmutz, 41, was found by other bikers early Saturday afternoon on the ground and unconscious along the Holy Roller Trail. Resort emergency personnel and Park City firefighter paramedics responded within minutes, but were unable to revive the man. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Schmutz reportedly was wearing a helmet, but it had cracked on impact and he appeared to have suffered severe trauma to his head.

The father of four and Boy Scout leader will be eulogized at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Creekside Ward chapel, 625 S. 750 East, in Layton. Interment will be at Redwood Memorial Cemetery.

A GoFundMe site (https://www.gofundme.com/2ndp5ek ) has been set up to help the family with funeral and living expenses.
