A Plain City man investigating an early Friday morning disturbance outside his home told Weber County sheriff's deputies he came under fire when he confronted a male intruder.

Sheriff's Lt. Nate Hutchinson said deputies responding to a 12:58 a.m. 911 call from the home, in the 5000 West block of 1500 North, found the residence's storm door shattered and the homeowner suffering minor cuts from the broken glass.

A short time later, deputies pulled over a suspicious vehicle seen leaving the area. The driver was allowed to leave after providing his information.

Meanwhile, deputies discovered that in addition to the shattered storm door, the tires on the homeowner's car had been slashed, and windows in both his car and the home had been broken.

Evidence at the scene indicated that the weapon used had been a pellet gun. Damages exceeded several thousand dollars.

Further investigation revealed that the homeowner had ongoing, undisclosed problems with the same 31-year-old man involved in the traffic stop. Deputies then contacted the suspect, arrested and booked him into the Weber County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, felony criminal mischief and child endangerment.
