Provo police are looking for a would-be bank robber apparently armed only with a loud mouth, a so far unsuccessful holdup strategy.

The suspect — a 5-foot-11 white male in his 20s, of thin build, wearing a floppy hat, dark blue bandana, gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and dark gloves — carried a black backpack into the Banner Bank, 201 E. Center St., just before 11 a.m. Thursday.

There were no notes demanding cash; no waiving of firearms or even claims to have a gun in this attempted robbery. Instead, police say, the suspect began yelling that he needed money.

The bank's manager responded by repeatedly telling the suspect to leave. Eventually, perhaps with a sore throat but no cash, he did.

Police believe the suspect may be linked to a similar case in neighboring Orem. PPD released an image of the man captured from bank security video.

Anyone with information is asked to call Provo police at 801-852-6255.
