Police were looking for two suspected street gang members after a 16-year-old boy was shot and wounded in Salt Lake City on Tuesday night.

Salt Lake City police Detective Robert Ungricht said the victim, who was in serious condition Wednesday following surgery, was walking near 1155 S. Glendale Drive when a white sedan pulled up next to him about 6:45 p.m.

One of the two occupants of the car exited and fired several shots, one of which struck the youth in the side. The gunman then jumped back in the car and sped off.

The victim ran some distance down the street and collapsed, where friends found him and called for help.

Ungricht said the victim has a history of gang affiliation and activity.

The suspects were described a male Latinos in their late teens to early 20s. One was heavy in build and wearing red shorts and a gray shirt, the other was thin and wearing baggy jeans and gray shirt.
