A man was burned in a fire Monday night while he was working on a car with two other men in Salt Lake City, firefighters said.

The men were in a storage and workshop space in a building at 510 W. 200 North about 8:40 p.m. when a fire broke out, said Salt Lake City Fire Department spokesman Jasen Asay. Investigators do not know whether the car caught fire or what was the origin of the blaze, Asay said.

One man suffered second-degree burns on his arms, covering 15 percent of his body, Asay said. Two others were not injured; one of them ran from the building but was found later.

The fire spread to a collection of plastic 5-gallon jugs containing gasoline, Asay said. The fire melted the jugs and ignited the gasoline, Asay said. Nonetheless, crews contained the fire in the storage area where it began.

Fire investigators were trying to learn the cause of the fire late Monday.
