A West Jordan woman drowned Thursday during a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints rafting trip in Idaho.

Pamela Solomon, 54, was leading a youth group on a trip when she fell from her raft, according to a statement from LDS Church spokesman Eric Hawkins. Solomon was purportedly wearing a life jacket and pulled quickly from the river, but swallowed a "significant" amount of water.

She was resuscitated at the scene and transported to a hospital in Jackson, Wyo., where she died.

"Solomon was a beloved Young Women's president," Hawkins said, "and we mourn with her family and the members of her congregation as they face this tragic loss."
