With a boom, explosives demolished two smokestacks at Provo's downtown power plant Sunday morning.

The stacks, which tower above the downtown skyline, haven't been used in at least 20 years and are leftover from when the power plant burned coal. The city was worried an earthquake would topple them. The detonation occurred 7 a.m. near 650 N. 300 West.
