Campus police temporarily evacuated a Utah State University building after reports of a suspicious odor late Tuesday morning.

Reports of the smell were called in about 11 a.m. from the Center for Persons with Disabilities (6800 Old Main Hill), said USU emergency manager Judy Crockett.

After crews tested the air, they determined the smell came from a construction site nearby where workers were using oil to loosen some rusted bolts on a water line, Crockett said. The oil vaporized and went through the center's HVAC system, but did not pose a health risk.

After evacuations, responders treated a couple people with "watery eyes," Crockett said. The 50 people who left the building were allowed back in by 12 p.m.
