An off-duty Sanpete County deputy died and two others were in critical condition Saturday night after two cars collided head-on in central Utah.

Deputy Justin Scott, 27, was traveling west on State Road 132 about 6:30 p.m. when his sedan drifted out of his lane as the road curved to the right about 5 1/2 miles northwest of Fountain Green, a Utah Highway Patrol news release said.

His sedan collided head-on with an SUV, and Scott was killed by the impact, the release said. The man driving the SUV as well as a 4-year-old passenger were flown from the scene in critical condition.

A woman and two other children in the SUV were transported by ambulance to Central Valley Medical Center. Those two children were later flown to Primary Children's Hospital.

All occupants of both vehicles were properly restrained.
