A 35-year-old Utah man who admitted he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend's stepfather two years ago in Cedar City has been sentenced to prison for up to life.

Angelo Seth Carrasco pleaded guilty last year in 5th District Court to the first-degree felony aggravated murder for killing 44-year-old Shawn Multine in October 2014. Charges of aggravated burglary and aggravated assault were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

On Friday, Judge Keith Barnes sentenced Carrasco to a 25-year-to-life prison term.

Carrasco admitted in plea agreement documents that he forced his way into a home on Oct. 21, 2014, and shot Multine once in the torso with a rifle.

Carrasco was one of three charged in connection to Multine's death.

Carrasco ex-girlfriend, 20-year-old Clarissa Bulletts, was sentenced for up to 15 years in prison last year after pleading guilty to second-degree felony manslaughter, admitting in court records that she "recklessly caused" her stepfather's death.

Police believe Bulletts drove Carrasco and another man, Eric Albert Rodriguez, to the home and provided the gun, which had been kept in her trunk.

The woman then tried to lure Multine from his home via a text message, according court documents. When that didn't work, police say she remained in the area, and after the shooting, drove Carrasco and Rodriguez to another location.

Rodriguez is accused of also trying to lure Multine from the home and, when that did not work, yelling for Multine to come outside the home as Carrasco broke into the house and fired the gun.

Rodriguez, 31, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder and was sentenced earlier this year to 15 years to life.

Prosecutors have said that during Bullett's preliminary hearing there was testimony that she had told Carrasco that her stepfather had molested her, which may have been the motive for the shooting.
