A 34-year-old woman is dead after a crash in Salt Lake County on Friday morning.

Amber Orencole, of Midvale, was driving a pick-up truck north on Interstate 15 near 600 South, according to a news release from Utah Highway Patrol.

Orencole apparently hit her brakes suddenly after coming upon stopped traffic, which was backed up due to a grass fire on the right side of the freeway. She lost control of the truck, the release states, and went into the left lane in front of a semi-truck.

The semi-truck struck Orencole's car on the driver's side. She died at the scene.

The crash caused delays on I-15 throughout the morning.
