A wildfire near the Utah-Wyoming border has blackened more than 1,500 acres of Bureau of Land Management timber, grass and sagebrush.

Assistant BLM Fire Management Officer Kevin Cahill said southwestern Wyoming's Tokawana Fire, burning near the Meeks Cabin Reservoir about 5 miles north of the Utah line, was first spotted about 4 p.m. Thursday.

It remained out of control Friday, with firefighters in the process of mustering to battle the blaze. Cahill said there was no estimated time for containment.

The cause of the fire had not been determined, though thunderstorms and lightning have passed through the region of late.

Visible from Interstate 80, the fire and heavy smoke had shut down Wyoming highways 271 and 410.
