A Orem family of seven escaped unharmed, but lost its home to a two-alarm fire early Tuesday morning.

Public safety dispatchers say a 911 call reporting the fire, at 179 S. Ridgecrest, came in shortly after midnight. Orem firefighters arrived to find the house engulfed in flames and smoke.

Losses exceeded $300,000, but crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to adjacent homes, the Orem Fire Department reported.

Firefighters credited smoke alarms for alerting the family, allowing them to evacuate — though the father reportedly did en-enter the home when he noticed one child was missing. He was able to locate the child quickly and join the rest of the family outside.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.

The Utah Red Cross was assisting the family with food, shelter and clothing needs.
