A 28-year-old man is dead after falling about 70 feet while climbing in Rock Canyon on Monday.

Christopher Stockman was rappelling with friends at the Red Slab area about 5:40 p.m., according to a news release from Provo police.

Responders were investigating what caused Stockman to fall, though when his friends attempted to help, the release states, the injuries were "overwhelming."

He died at the scene.
