Two men are dead after a single-vehicle crash in Box Elder County on Monday morning.

James Gates, 29, of Kearns, was driving a pickup truck west on Interstate 84 when he drifted to the left about 7:30 a.m., according to a news release from Utah Highway Patrol.

Gates apparently overcorrected to the right and back again to the left, where the truck rolled through the median and stopped in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 13, the release states. No other cars struck the truck.

Gates, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected and died at the scene. Another passenger, 22-year-old Daymon Smith, of Kearns, was also ejected and died.

Three other men in the truck were transported to a local hospital, the release states, and are expected to survive.
