A wildfire was burning out of control early Friday morning in northern Utah's Willard Canyon.

Public safety dispatchers say the Rocky Peak Fire, suspected to have been ignited overnight by lightning, was not threatening any structures in the rugged, steep and sparsely populated Box Elder County canyon.

The fire was estimated to have topped 100 acres, but due to the inaccessibility of the terrain, firefighters focused on keeping the blaze contained rather than aggressively trying to extinguish it.

By afternoon, the fire appeared to have burned itself out, though it remained under the watchful eye of U.S. Forest Service firefighters.
