The Emery County Sheriff's Office confirmed the apparent slaying of a woman and wounding of a man over the weekend.

However, sheriff's spokewoman Janalee Luke said no further information could be released on Monday, due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Luke said deputies making a welfare check found the man with a gunshot wound to his torso inside an Orangeville residence on Sunday.

The woman's body was found nearby, but the specific fatal injury for the female victim was not disclosed.

Luke said the cause of her death was under investigation.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The identities of the deceased and the wounded man were not released.

Questions were referred to the county attorney's office, where officials declined to release further information on Monday.
