Investigators have determined arson was the cause of the fires that gutted two homes still under construction in South Jordan late Monday night.

South Jordan police released video surveillance showing the person they believe started the fire running away from the scene. They are seeking the public's help in identifying the individual, who may live near 9600 South and 1300 West, according to a news release. Anyone with information can call 801-840-4000.

City spokeswoman Tina Brown said more information will be released next week on the incident, but that she could not provide specific details Friday.

The fires started about 11:30 p.m. in a developing subdivision near 9700 South and 1000 West. Two dumpsters near the properties also caught fire.

The blaze caused more than $1 million in damage.
