A 20-year-old who drowned while swimming in a private pond in Hurricane has been identified by police as Brigham Zitting of Centennial Park, Ariz.

Zitting was trying to cross the pond near Quail Creek Ranch at about 3 p.m. Wednesday when he went under the water and did not resurface, Hurricane police said in a news release.

A family member unsuccessfully tried to help him and then called police.

Search and rescue crews later found Zitting in about 9 feet of water.

Police on Thursday said it was unclear why Zitting had drowned and that the incident remained under investigation.
