Police are looking for suspects in a string of five arson fires set early Monday morning in Centerville.

Centerville police Lt. Von Steenblik said the fires flared during a 15-20 minute period over a 2-mile stretch of the Davis County city. The first was reported at 3:45 a.m. in a trash bin packed with asphalt shingles, outside at church at 100 South and 200 East.

Four more fires were set, including two in black city garbage cans, another inside construction site Dumpster, and the last one in a pile of juniper bushes outside a home at 1450 N. Main Street.

"That last one also caught a power pole on fire, popping a transformer," Steenblik said.

The fires are being investigated jointly by police and the South Davis Metro Fire District.

Fire officials released a video of a person of interest in the case — a dark-haired, heavy set man who was caught on a surveillance camera near one of the fires just before it was reported to police.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call Centerville police at 801-292-8441.
