A shooting in Kearns early Sunday morning has left a man dead.

The incident occurred just after 4 a.m. near 5615 S. 4220 West in Kearns, according to Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell.

Bell said the victim, identified as 24-year-old Marvin Lopez of West Valley City, was at a residence with other people. At one point, Lopez was out in front of the residence, where shots were fired.

A silver vehicle was seen driving quickly from the scene.

About 10 minutes after Unified Police received the call of shots fired, they received another call from Jordan Valley West Hospital reporting that a man with gunshot wounds had just been pronounced dead. It was eventually determined that Lopez's friends had transported him to the hospital for emergency treatment, and that this was the same man involved in the shooting.

No arrests have been made and the shooting remains under investigation, Bell said.
