Citing dry, hot conditions, South Jordan officials on Friday prohibited use of fireworks, cigarette lighters, matches or other devices that produce sparks or open flames within areas of vegetation bordering the southwest Salt Lake County community.

Specifically, spokeswoman Tina Brown said, the restrictions target the Bingham Creek and Jordan River Parkway open space and trail systems.

Without a city permit, fireworks also are banned within 25 feet of undeveloped wildlands or parcels containing dry vegetation such as brush, grass, weeds, or other combustible fuels.

Anyone who sees violations of the restrictions is asked to call South Jordan police at 801-840-4000.
