The brother of the alleged killer of Unified Police Officer Doug Barney was sentenced Friday to serve 15 days in jail for assaulting two police officers

at the scene of the Holladay shooting.

Just hours after the Jan. 17 shooting death of Barney by Cory Lee Henderson — who was subsequently shot and killed by other UPD officers — Henderson's younger brother, Jaiden Lynn Snyder, arrived in Holladay in an agitated state.

Police allege a woman who said she was Henderson's mother drove a car "recklessly" into the restricted crime scene and Snyder got out of the vehicle and began yelling at officers.

Charging documents say Snyder resisted officers' efforts to subdue him and punched a detective in the face. After a stun gun was deployed, he stopped struggling long enough for the officers to get him under control, charges state. But as he was being walked to a patrol car, Snyder allegedly head-butted another detective and continued to make threats.

Snyder, now 19, was charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of class A misdemeanor assault on a police officer, one count each of class B misdemeanor threat of violence and interference with an arresting officer, and disorderly conduct, a class C misdemeanor.

In April, Snyder pleaded guilty to assault on a police officer and interference with an arresting officer, and the other three counts were dismissed.

The crimes are punishable by up to 18 months in jail.

But Judge Royal Hansen on Friday ordered him to serve 15 days, suspending the remainder of the jail time providing Snyder successfully completes 36 months probation, which includes performing 50 hours of community service and obtaining a high school diploma.

Henderson, 31, a fugitive parolee who had recently been charged with federal drug and firearm counts, allegedly ran a red light on Jan. 17 and crashed a car at 2300 East and 4500 South.

Police say he had fled on foot before allegedly shooting Barney, 44, and later shooting and wounding 51-year-old UPD Officer Jon Richey in an exchange of gunfire with Richey and other officers near 2100 E. 4500 South that resulted in Henderson's death.

Earlier this month, the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office ruled that the officers who shot it out with Henderson were justified in using deadly force.
