Hurricane police quickly tracked down and arrested a couple in a drug store hold-up.

Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said officers rushed to the scene of an armed robbery at the Hurricane Family Pharmacy, 25 N. 2000 West, about 6 p.m. Tuesday. They learned that a male suspect, packing a handgun, had approached the counter and demanded unspecified medications.

An employee provided an undisclosed amount of drugs, and the suspect fled from the pharmacy, jumped into a waiting vehicle and sped off.

"[Police were given] a detailed description of the suspect, who was wearing a hat and bandanna to hide his appearance ... as well as a very good description of the vehicle," Buell said.

Officers closed off possible escape routes and saturated the area of the pharmacy and soon spotted the suspect vehicle traveling on 600 North. A traffic stop ensued, and the male suspect — along with a female — were arrested.

Inside the vehicle officers allegedly recovered the stolen drugs, Buell said.

The 37-year-old man and his 32-year-old wife were booked into the Washington County jail on suspicion of armed robbery. They were being held Wednesday on $50,000 bail each.
