The heat will continue to build in the Salt Lake City region this week, as well as other parts of the state.

So much so that the National Weather Service has issued an excessive-heat warning for much of Utah, starting from noon Monday and extending through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Those days could see temperatures peaking in the upper 90s, according to the service.

An excessive-heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously high temperatures will hit, meaning the usual precautions are in place: drink lots of water, crank up the air conditioning, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors.

The National Weather Service also warns of high temperatures in the southern and central parts of Utah, the areas of Zion National Park, Capitol Reef National Park and the Glen Canyon Recreation Area.
